Red Class

Welcome To Red Class

Welcome to our class page!

Here you will find a snippet of the fun things we get up to throughout our time in Reception.  We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs and sharing the memories with us.

It has been a few weeks now since we began school and we have settled in really well.  We are making lots of new friends and having fun with our learning at the same time.  Here are a few photographs of what we've been up to.

We have been thinking about our bodies and all the wonderful things they can do.  Here are some photographs of just some of the activities we did in class...

frown Celebrating Our Differences frown

We enjoyed discussing how we are all different in our own special way.

We talked about our families backgrounds, cultures & heritage.  As part of our celebration, we came to school in an outfit that represents our own family.  See how amazing we looked!

noPeople Who Help Usno

We have been thinking about all the people who help us in the wider community and in particular the emergency services.  We were incredibly lucky to be visited by many of these roles.  Take a look at who we met!

We had a crime scene in the school!!  It appeared that Humpty Dumpty had fallen off the wall.  Who should we call?

We discussed the ways the emergency services can travel to assist us.  We were able to list a lot of vehicles including lifeboats and mountain rescue helicopters.  We decided to have a go at making our own emergency vehicles by attaching different media & materials together.  Can you guess what each of us made?

This term, we have begun our cooking sessions.  We had such fun celebrating Bonfire Night that we decided to decorate some biscuits to look like fireworks.

They looked and tasted delicious!

sad Bushcraft sad

We spent some of the morning over at the Bushcraft tent.  We enjoyed singing songs around the campfire and using the story stones to make up stories.

Afterwards, we went to visit the new chickens!  It was great fun watching them run around.

The Little Red Hen

This week we have been reading the story of the Little Red Hen.  We talked about the ingredients you need to make bread and decided to have a go ourselves.

We had lots of fun and the bread rolls were yummy.

The Nativity

We have been rehearsing hard for our first ever school Nativity play and this week we finally got to perform it for our grown-ups!  We all had a special part to play on the big day and had different outfits to wear too.

We really enjoyed retelling the story of the birth of Jesus and the very first Christmas.

During Literacy this week we have been looking at the story of Supertato by Sue Hendra.

We had great fun freeing the frozen carrots from the block of ice and helping defeat the evil pea.

We even had a go at designing and making our own Supertatoes.

Take a look at what we created!

Christmas Cooking

We had a great time melting chocolate and marshmallows together during our cooking session.  We mixed it all together with some rice krispies and drizzled white chocolate on top to make our own little Christmas puddings.

They were delicious no

Over the past few weeks we have been learning and perfecting our BEAM (Balance Education And Movement) stretches and holds.

We found some of them very tricky in the beginning but are definitely getting the hang of it now.

Can you copy some of the positions we have made below?

Wild Animals

We have begun thinking about Wild Animals and all the different environments they live in in the world.  We were able to list a lot of different types including ones from land, sea and air!  We discussed their habitats and looked closely at their patterning, noticing both similarities and differences.

We chose our favourite and decided to make a sock puppet of it.

Can you guess which animal we each made?

This 1/2 term we have been thinking about 'Space', and what better things to make than Rock Cakes!

We used weighing scales to measure out the ingredients we needed and had a great time mixing them all together.  Everybody agreed the room smelled lovely as they were baking in the oven.

How do you think they tasted?

We have had great fun in our I.C.T. lessons.  We have learnt how to turn on the computer and then safely shut it down.  We have also learnt how to log on by ourselves!

In the beginning, using a mouse was a bit tricky but we have definitely improved our mouse control skills and are now able to complete simple programs.

We shared a story called 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' and talked a lot about what we like to put on our own pancakes at home. On Pancake Day, Simon gave us a demonstration of how to make them and we all had a turn at practising how to flip them too! It was great fun and some of us were very good at it...

World Book Day

Thursday 7th March 2019 was World Book Day. All the children dressed up as their favourite book character - and so did the teachers! We did a parade with the other reception classes and some of the children in Year 6 came to our class to read with us. We all had a great time.

Now that the weather is improving, we are able to have our PE lessons outside. This week we have been learning some ball skills.
This week we have been learning about 'Minibeasts'. We went on a hunt for minibeasts in the woodland and found some hiding in the undergrowth.
We all had a great time at Sports Day!
Well done to our 6 first place runners in the 40m sprint.
