Medical examinations are sometimes arranged for children in the school. You will be sent a form to be completed and returned to the school.
If a child is recovering from a short term illness for which the doctor has prescribed a course of medication but is considered by the doctor to be fit enough for school before the course of treatment is complete, parents may call at the school at the appropriate time during the day to administer the medicine. In many cases, medicines prescribed by doctors are taken three times a day and, therefore, can be given before school, after school and at bedtime. Apart from inhalers it is school policy not to keep or administer any medicines in school unless there are exceptional circumstances. In such cases the school will require specific written medical information before considering whether to accept responsibility. The school will be as helpful as possible, but cannot accept liability for medication which is the parent's responsibility.
Our school policy on medicines is based on the Code of Practice established by the Local Authority and is designed to ensure the safety of all children.
